Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
For today’s Top Ten Tuesday post, the topic assigned today was Books I Decided to DNF (did not finish) too Quickly.
If you would like to check out my last weeks post – click here.
Books I DNF too Quickly? Will I ever finish?
For me personally, I rarely consider a book DNF. Since I am a mood reader, a lot of the time I may start a book – and if I’m not feeling it, I will put it on “pause”. So instead of DNF, here is a list of books currently on “pause”. 🙂
Glass Sword (Red Queen #2) by Victoria Aveyard: So I have been stuck at 44% on my goodreads for like… a while. Every time I pick it up, I’m like nope – I’d rather not throw up today. There’s just too much betrayal that I literally don’t trust anything I’m reading. So as much as I’d like to think I will finish this series, I think deep down I will probably put it aside for now…
Verdit: On the Shelf it Goes!
Truthwitch (The Witchlands, #1) by Susan Dennard: I started this one and it was such an info dump, I was being thrown into a story that my brain couldn’t process. I’m only a few chapterS in, so maybe I didn’t give it a chance? I’ve read so many great reviews, that I’m not ready to give up on it.
Verdict: Give it a second chance!
Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore: I got this book for Christmas from my hubby, who researched books that were similar to ones I’ve read in the past. It was too cute. So I tried reading this one back at Christmas, and it was so slow, it quickly lost my attention. However, someone who I highly value their book opinions, recently read this one and loved it. So I find myself looking at it again and thinking I should have stuck in it longer…
Verdict: Give it a second chance!
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab: This is the longest standing book on my TBR list and I have had it on my kobo for a few years now. I started reading it and not to say it wasn’t good, it was just at a time in my life where I wasn’t able to invest time into reading it. I will probably need to re-read it from the beginning. But now that I have seen the success of the series and how many people enjoyed it, I’m definitely motivated again to pick it up.
Verdict: Added to Summer TBR!
Obsidio (Iluminae Files, #3) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: *Gasp* Did I just say I have yet to finish Obsidio?! Yes, sadly this one I started and have not finished yet. I was the biggest fan of Illuminae and Gemina, both 5 star reads for me. They are however heavy heavy books. I think since I read the first two back to back, I was mentally exhausted by the time I got to the 3rd instalment. Plus to be honest I was disappointed to see that they are introducing another whole new set of characters. But ultimately I love this series and I think I’m ready to dive back in and read it hopefully this month!
Verdict: Added to the Summer TBR!
Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1) by Jay Kristoff: So this is my most recent, “DNF” book. I tried reading it two weeks ago and couldn’t believe how intense and slightly tedious the book is. It’s a lot of info thrown at you, there are footnotes on every page. I still love the story but I think I need to be in the mood for this one. Also with the recent news about DarkDawn, I’m more likely to push this one off so I’m not stuck waiting for so long!
Verdict: On the shelf it goes! (for now…)
Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2) by Sarah J Maas: So Throne of Glass was one of the first books I read when I was getting back into reading last year. It was also the first Sarah J Maas book I read. I really enjoyed it and I bought the second & third book in the series because I knew automatically that I wanted to blow through the series. Unfortunately, the second book was so boring, I’m stuck at the half way point and I didn’t like where the story was headed. Is this series worth continuing?
Verdict: On the shelf it goes!
Well, that’s all I can think of at the moment! Not a full 10, and that’s OK! Less indecision on my part!
Have you read any of the books I mentioned? Should I keep going on any of them? Let me know in the comments, I love to chat about these books in particular! Give me motivation friends!
As always…
HAPPY READING!!
Definitely give A Darker Shade of Magic another try! I love that series. 😊

I almost DNF’d both Truthwitch and Nevernight. I’m really happy I didn’t give up on Nevernight, it took me a really long time to get into it, like the longest it’s ever taken me to start liking a book, but once I did I loved it. I wouldn’t have regretted DNF’ing Truthwitch though, I was bored from page one till the end. I hope you enjoy it more than I did! 🙂

Haha thanks for letting me know! Truthwitch was a cover buy for me guiltily and I was so sad about how slow it was. We’ll see if I pick it up again!
I know for sure I want to read Nevernight! I just need to know how to tackle it lol, it’s so intense!
Thanks for stopping by 🤗

Haha, you have several of my favourites on here! Graceling and Truthwitch are quite similar in tone and style – I loved them both, but I can see why they might not appeal. Nevernight is fab, as is A Darker Shade of Magic!

That’s what I’ve heard about Nevernight and A Darker Shade of Magic! I’ll give both a retry!

I am really looking forward to Obsidio, but I didn’t realize they were throwing more characters in! I guess I should have. Oh, well.

Definitely can see your perspective on the second books in both the Red Queen and Throne of Glass series. They weren’t easy to get through. Great list!
